A good cause will bring out good folks. That seems to be the case at the Farmers’ Market near Alamitos Bay in Long Beach on Sundays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Customers of diverse ages, colors, and fashion taste visit the many stalls looking for fresh fruits, nuts and vegetables, harvested locally and sold directly from the growers to the eaters.
The aroma of herbs, citrus fruit, and a variety of vegetables wafts through the air, adding to the friendly atmosphere. Almost magically, a city parking lot is turned into a village market place where neighbor greets neighbor with smiles and pleasant words.
What happens here each week can’t help but have positive effects on individuals and communities. The more we support the good folks, the better the chances are that we all will not only survive, but also live more enjoyable lives.
